out of place

iron and wine cover of such great heights appears in an m&m commercial. it doesn’t fit. the idea of the song is not consistent with marketing candy. i guess that’s branding for you.

everybody’s talking about itunes 4.9. it’s pretty good. i like podcasting, and it’s all in one place now. i’m usually too lazy to keep up. but itunes has a limited selection. looking for a good football podcast.

the first weezer song i ever heard. do you know where i heard it? the windows 95 cd, the music video that was basically disguised as a happy days episode. the song was so catchy, i had to get the cd . . . i really enjoyed that. it didn’t feel like groupthink, because i found it all on my own, no reading of reviews, nobody told me they were nifty. (of course, now i think weezer kinda sucks.) gotta avoid groupthink. we each have an identity outside of that. stand as a group, think on your own.

i’ve been working on a few things lately. first, i keep trying to advance my language training. second, i am trying to prepare for the mcat–i want to do it in august, get life on the move. learning to compare musical textures, especially of pop music, is the last one. that way i can become artsy fartsy.

i was in a terrible rush today after watching batman begins. (mini-review: it redeems the franchise quite a bit, actually–but i won’t ruin it for you. they are a bit overdramatic, though. christian bale is a pretty good batman, they flesh out the origin pretty well, and katie holmes does a nice job of looking pretty, although her character is not fleshed out enough. the rest of the supporting cast is not bad, but not great. overall, worth seeing, especially for five dollars, including free popcorn.)

ANYWAY, the music. yeah so i was listening in a terrible rush. but this has nothing to do with anything. actually, i downloaded a random french song at work from a coworker to show him how ourtunes works (see http://ourtunes.sourceforge.net/). WHO IS JOHN LELOUP? he makes decent music. he sings in french. he’s like a french _____ from the one track i heard. (i need to fill in this blank, but he definitely reminds me of SOMEONE. maybe travis. that would explain a lot.) at first i thought coldplay, but they seem to be stuck in this infinite loop of arena feel-goodness with meaningless lyrics; john leloup is not. (of course, i’ll have to improve my french to understand this song better.) i think he is canadian. whatever, i like, i like. i think tomorrow i will be demonstrating the use of ourtunes again, mwahaha.
