when the seventy year old conductor at the end of a really fast piece is swinging his baton so fast and hard that he looks like he’s gonna have a heart attack and keel over

today, until 4 pm, i imagined everyone i saw as their youthful selves, like when they were about 5 years old. i like extrapolating personalities like that, because there are certain personality traits that you never outgrow, i think. unless something catastrophic happens, that is.

it was the most happy daydream ever, because instead of the non-smiling folk of mit i saw only the smiling folk of pre-mit, and i wondered what we did to ever deserve all that responsibility, and how many of us would love to free ourselves from those shackles.

this bubble was promptly popped when the office hour for my class came around. i miss my daydream already.
