i haven’t posted about football in a while
chelsea’s defence is miserly but really nobody has run at them all year besides aston villa, who finally breached that defence, and still lost
i think the key to beating chelsea is to not roll over. (you still need a little bit of class though, but i don’t think it’s out of the reach of most of the premiership clubs.) i think if anyone, wigan can beat them in the return fixture, but that’s in a while. fulham, blackburn, manchester city, and spurs have a good chance too i think, i hope they do not change their attacking philosophies. john terry can be exposed for pace, for example, although his superb positioning makes it difficult most of the time. stretch them, give your side some width. make the defence work a little harder, warm cech’s hands. cech might be a great keeper but nobody’s made him earn his probably ridiculous salary, his skill might turn out to be an illusion under pressure.
i also think you need to go back to the time-honoured method of playing against superior opposition–steely tackles. while they aren’t going to run home to mommy like arsenal, certainly teams give them way too much respect. they are human. they might play well as a team but they are still human. while the team probably knows that, mourinho doesn’t seem to, so consider reminding chelsea of that as a favour to him.
